This Privacy Policy explains how SmartBudget collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the SmartBudget Android application. The app is designed as a personal finance tool and stores most user data locally on the user's device.

1. Overview

SmartBudget is a budgeting and expense-tracking app. It helps users record transactions, manage budgets, view spending statistics, create local backups, and optionally subscribe to premium features.

We do not require account registration, and we do not operate a developer-controlled cloud backend for storing your budgeting data. Most app information remains on your device unless you choose to export or share it yourself.

2. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use the app, SmartBudget may process the following categories of information:

  • Financial records you enter, such as transactions, categories, notes, budgets, recurring items, and account balances.
  • App settings stored locally, such as selected currency, theme preference, reminder settings, premium status, and app lock preference.
  • Local backup files you choose to create and share manually.
  • Subscription and purchase status information provided through Google Play Billing.
  • Advertising-related information processed by Google AdMob in the free version of the app.
  • Notification permission status if you allow reminders.

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

SmartBudget stores your budgeting data locally on your device using local app storage technologies. This includes your financial entries, settings, premium flag, and related app configuration.

This local information is used only to provide the app's core functionality, including transaction history, reporting, reminders, and premium experience handling.

4. Backups and Exports

SmartBudget allows you to create backup files and CSV exports manually. These files may contain your budgeting data, including transactions, accounts, budgets, recurring transactions, notes, and timestamps.

  • Backup files are generated locally on your device.
  • Exported files are only shared if you choose to share them.
  • We do not automatically upload these files to developer-controlled servers.
  • If you share or store a backup file using third-party apps or cloud services, that sharing is controlled by you and subject to those third parties' policies.

5. Biometric and Device Authentication

SmartBudget can optionally use Android biometric or device credential authentication to lock access to the app.

  • Biometric verification is handled by the Android operating system.
  • We do not collect, access, or store your biometric templates, fingerprint data, facial data, or PIN/password.
  • The app only receives the authentication result from the system.

6. Advertising in the Free Version

The free version of SmartBudget may display ads through Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may process certain technical information to serve, limit, measure, or personalize ads, depending on user region, consent choices, and platform rules.

  • This may include device identifiers, IP address, app interaction data, approximate location derived from IP, and diagnostic data.
  • Ad serving may be subject to consent prompts where required by law.
  • Premium subscribers are intended to receive an ad-free experience.

7. Subscriptions and Google Play Billing

SmartBudget offers monthly and yearly premium subscriptions through Google Play Billing.

  • Purchase processing, payment collection, renewals, cancellations, and refunds are handled by Google Play.
  • The app may receive subscription state information, such as whether premium access is active.
  • We do not directly receive your full payment card details.

8. Notifications and Reminders

If you enable reminders, SmartBudget may request notification permission so it can send local notifications related to budgeting reminders and recurring transaction processing.

These notifications are generated by the app on your device and are used only to support app functionality.

9. How Information Is Shared

We do not sell your personal financial data. Information may be shared only in limited situations such as:

  • With Google AdMob for free-tier advertising.
  • With Google Play for subscription purchase processing and entitlement handling.
  • When you intentionally export, share, or back up your own data using device or third-party sharing features.
  • When required by law, regulation, or valid legal process.

10. Data Retention

  • Local app data remains on your device until you delete it, clear the app's storage, restore over it, or uninstall the app.
  • Manual backup or export files remain wherever you store them until you delete them.
  • Subscription and advertising-related data may be retained by Google under Google's own retention practices.

11. Security

We take reasonable steps in the app's design to reduce accidental exposure of your information, including local storage, optional app lock support, and controlled export and backup flows. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure.

You are responsible for keeping your device secure and for protecting any backup or exported files that you choose to store or share.

12. Children's Privacy

SmartBudget is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly design the app to solicit personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data in violation of applicable law, please contact us.

13. Your Choices and Rights

  • You can review and delete financial entries from within the app.
  • You can disable reminders and app lock features in settings.
  • You can remove the app and clear local data by uninstalling it.
  • You can manage subscriptions through Google Play.
  • You can manage ad-related choices through your device, consent prompts, and Google account settings where applicable.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app, legal requirements, or third-party service usage. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
